2002 Ford Taurus Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The light that indicates that the doors are open stays lit even when the doors are closed and locked. There is no bypass switch to turn the dome light off so I had to remove the entire fixture. What is wrong with it and how easy is it to repair myself, or around how much would it cost to get it repaired?

Sounds like you have a faulty or sticking door ajar switch try lubricating the switch's !

Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems
The front door components consist of the following:
door ajar switch
door lock cylinder
exterior door handle
front door latch
front door lock actuator
front door lock push button rod
interior door handle actuator cable
interior door handle
The door ajar switch and the door lock actuator can be installed individually.
The rear door components consist of the following:
door ajar switch
exterior door handle
interior door handle actuator cable
interior door handle
rear door latch
rear door lock actuator
rear door lock button push rod
