Engine Performance problem
2001 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 138000 miles

after driving for awhile car start hesitating and loses power like its running out of gas. I can pull over turn it off and crank it back up and car runs fine. What could be the problem?

Inspect and test all the following listed below: Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking, fuel filter or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.
