2000 Ford Taurus NO A/C

Purchased this car a little while ago, and don't want to spend too much on it. The A/C doesn't work. I took it in and had it looked at. The mechanic filled it with refridgerant, as it was empty. But after doing this, the compressor was still not coming on. So there's an electrical problem, as well as a leak. He ruled out the relay, but said he would first have to diagnose the circuit before searching for and repairing a leak. I've heard that the low pressure switch can be faulty and prevent the compressor from coming on. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Check for any codes
As if so in some cases the PCM will stop the AC compressor
And need to clear the codes
You can do so by disconnecting the battery for a few min

Cycle switch is a common failure and you can disconnect it and bypass the connectors to check if system work remove and replace the switch

Don't over look the fuses and would check them 1st

Thanks for your reply! Apparently the fuses and compressor relay are OK. Do you know where the low pressure switch is located? Also, what does it mean if the compressor still does or does not come on when the windshield defogger is on?

Cycle switch located on right side under hood by the firewall (passenger side )
When defrost on AC should cycle on and off this is done so that system stay oiled
if have an AC issue that will not happen and AC compressor clutch will not cycle
