Scanning for codes should identify the problem as it maybe just a fuse of key need to be reprogrammed or not the security system at all so I would suggest getting it tot he dealer who can reset program the key for $120.00

Glad you got it going, here is more information

Passive anti-theft system uses PCM to enable or disable vehicle's engine. When system is functioning properly and ignition switch is turned to RUN or START position, THEFT indicator light will turn on for 3 seconds, then turn off. Vehicle will be enabled to start and run. If there is a problem in PATS, THEFT indicator light will flash rapidly or glow constantly for more than 3 seconds when ignition is turned to run or start.

Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) utilizes a self-diagnostic system which stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) module if a problem exists in the PATS.

.
PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE
Ensure electronically coded ignition key is being used.
Check for damaged ignition lock cylinder switch, damaged encoded ignition key or open fuses.
Check for loose or corroded connectors, damaged wiring harness, damaged ignition switch or damaged transceiver module.
Repair or replace components as necessary.

I hate to say it, but it needs to go to a dealer. They are the only ones that have the proper test equipment to check the system.

To get it to a dealer, try leaving the key in the run position for aprox 10+ minutes. See if the light goes off. If it does, the vehicle should start.

Let me know if that helps.
