Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Automatic 138000 miles

I have had my car about 6 months, no problems until it got hot out. Now if I drive when its hot it dies on me. Check engine light does NOT come on. So I took my car into an auto repair shop and had a diagnostic done. Came back saying it was a head gasket because the HC levels were at 1245 and they are only supposed to be at around 20. So we replaced the head gasket but it is still dying on me. Checked fuel pressure and was at 32 psi which is normal for this car. Battery and connections are fine also. Again no codes coming up. Any ideas?

Hi Jen
you say you have 32 psi fuel pressure, but is this the pressure when the car is running fine?
You need to have the pressure checked when the car is stalling. Does the car start right back up since I didn, t see the mention of a tow truck?

To diag any prob the mech has to know what the car has lost when it stalls. Most things are monitored and the pcm would record them.
However the one thing that is not is the fuel pump and filter

Yes 32 is the pressure when its running fine. When it stalls it won't restart. I have to wait 30 minutes or more with out touching it and then it will restart and I go straight home so haven't had to tow. So how can I check the fuel pressure when it stalls if it won't start?

On the fuel rail their is a valve that looks like a tire valve stem you will need a fuel pressure guage avail at any parts store. Connect the guage and crank eng yes fuel pressure at least 30 psi pump not the prob. Possibly a tfi module as well this can be removed and tested at parts store
