Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 170000 miles

The problem started around four months ago, when I was driving down the road the car just died. I pulled it over to the side and tried to start it again multiple times with no success, so I had it towed to my house. I got in it the next day to try it, just for kicks, and it started right up. I figured I just had bad luck. However, at least two more times I tried to start it and it sounded like it was fighting to turn over, but would, and if it wouldn't I would wait five minutes and then it would. I took it to a mechanic friend of mine and was told he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I got it back and have been driving it fine until around two days ago when it started sounding hard to start again, like it is hesitating to turn over. Then this morning I drove it to class, got out of class and tried to turn it on, and it won't turn over. There is no click click click like the battery is dead, and the radio and lights work fine, so I'm sure it isn't that. There is no sound at all when I turn the key. I have little to no knowledge of cars, so any advice would be helpful. How much is it going to cost me to have it hooked up to the computer at the dealership? Is that what I should do?

Sounds like a connection problem or starter motor problem. Check the connections at the cable's ends.

I'll update this in a minute, I think there was a problem with the harness at the starter motor.
