Is the AC compressor supposed to stay running while the defrost is selected, or should it cycle on and off?

If it should cycle, what would be the cause of it staying on and not cycling while in defrost?

Thanks

When the defrost is selected, the AC compressor comes on and stays running as long as the defrost is on. I wasn't sure if this is normal or if the compressor should cycle on and off while in defrost.

That depends on how hot and humid it is, 85-95 or above and it runs constantly, 70's it would cycle normally, say every minute or so. Use a manifold gauge set, or charging station(preferred method) to check charge level. The reason it runs is to remove condensation from the interior of the car, which fogs windows.
