1993 Ford Taurus Slipping & Speedometer works on and of

This vehicle has overdrive. When driving it slips from 1st to 2nd. When I first start driving the speedometer doesn't work. Sometimes it will give a "jump" and the speedometer starts to work. It takes off from a stop very sluggish and will drive a bit sluggish at times.
