94 Ford Ranger Automatic;

stutters when idle

sometimes engine looses all power while driving, will not restart after power is lost for 10-20min

on hot days if vehicle is driven short distance and shut off, it will not start again unless left to sit
20min-45min

I've had the coil pack replaced, as 2 different mechanics felt this may be the cause. Replacing the coil pack has seemed to make the problem occur less often, however it does still occur.
Next, mechanic suggested a tune up. $201.85 later new spark plugs & wires resulted in no change.
Next guess by mechanic, fuel pump. This kind of would make sence considering occasionally I do smell fuel when it finally does start after it refused to turn over. They checked the fuel pump, and it was perfectly fine.
Any ideas on what might be the problem?

I'm thinkin, if your smelling fuel its cause your trying to start it before its ready. Though efi, the fuel pump primes everytime you turn the ignition from off to on. The fuel could have just been building up.
Have you tried the fuel filter? You could have something movin around once it warms up.
