99 Ford Ranger 4X4 problems

My truck disengages four wheel after a few minutes of use but if I take it out then put it back in it works for a fe mins again does any one no what the problem could be? I have been told that there is a problem in my vacum system but I would like to find out what I can be fore I replace the vacum switchs

I had leaks out at the front wheels where the rubber vacuum line meets the metal, I cleaned it up and reattached it with a real light smearing of silicone and it was fine.

I have done that already that was my first problem but they just wont stay locked
