Have you checked to see if you are getting power to the actuator on the transfer case? The actuator is a pretty common problem

Check out this guide on using a test light

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-a-test-light-circuit-tester

Heres the instructions to change the actuator if it tests bad

1. Set the MSS to the 4x4 HIGH position.
2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
3. Disconnect the transfer case shift motor connector.
4. Remove the bracket bolt and the transfer case shift motor bolts, then remove the transfer case shift motor.
To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
5. Remove the grease from the motor adapter and check for any nicks or burrs. If any damage is found, repair or install a new transfer case shift motor as necessary.
6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Apply a coat of multi-purpose grease to the transfer case shift motor.

I drive a 2004 Ford Ranger 4X4 4L, I replaced the one front drive shaft complete with cv joints, through an Ford agent, since this replacement, the four wheel drive indicator light and the Remote Free Wheel (RFW) lights one the Instrument cluster was flashing continiously, the Ford agent did a diagnostic test on the vehicle and the following Fault Codes was picked up by the test: P1891 Transfer Case Contact Plate Ground Return Open Circuit, and P1895, Axle Disconnect Disengagement Solinoid Circuit Low, They said it was a Anti lock Traction control Module, while it was on order, thet said I can still use the vehicle as is until the part arrives, about a week later, I realised the front differencial was blowing oil out through the breather pipe, I returned to the Ford Agent, to report this, they only extended the pipe and replaced the module, but the problem of the flashing lights was still present, What now?

Hi Dee4L,

Thank you for the donation.

If problem had occurred only after replacement of the the CV shaft, there is a possibily during the repair work, some wiring harness or components were affected. The Ford agent might be responsble for the problem.

P1891 means not shifting between 2 and 4 WD but I could not find any data on P1895. For any codes not listed, it is related to the Multifunction Electronic Control Modules.

Oil being pushed out of the differentials coul mean excessive oil level or the oil is heating up and being pushed out of the breather hole. The Ford agent that you mentioned does not seem to concerned which is an indication they are not too reliable. Get a second opinion if possible.
