I have a 2001 Ford Ranger 4wd w/4.0 eng.
Most of the time I have a very hard time getting it into 4w low. I put it into neutrall and also stop. When this dosn't work I shut the engin off or try moving the truck slightly. Mabee going through this several times. Eventually it will shift. This happens into and out of 4w low. 4w high allways works.
Do you have any ideas as to where I should look?

This could be electronic or mechanical. Try having the trans scanned for codes to see if it has recorded a problem with the 4wd control module. To go into 4lo, you should always stop the vehicle.

Thanks for the info.
I was puting it into neutral but I must not have been holding the brake long enough. Now it works every time.
