1998 Ford Ranger 4X4 system

I recently purchased a 1998 Ford Ranger form my Uncle. The Transmission was just rebuilt 2000 miles ago. But I'm having a problem with the 4x4 system. It is a turn knob 4x4, when I put it in 4 wheel drive it doesn't do anything, but the 4x4 and 4x4 low light flash on and off in the dash at the same time. Also my uncle said it used to kick out of 4 wheel drive for no reason. He replaced all the vacume lines and the hubs.L

Hey there I have a 99 ranger and I was haing the same problem but mine was poping in and out. My truck is a electric ingage. And my screw behind the motor was getting stuck. So I tool it a part and greased it good and I have had no problems since. The only other thing I can tell u is to take a vacume gauge and check the presser about 13 pounds I belive and that there could be a problem around the motor with your pressure
