Engine Cooling problem
1960 Other Ford Models

We have a 50 Merc Flat head engine in a 1936 Ford
We blew a head gaskiet on the right hand side.
After replaceing the head gaskets (both sides ) and replaceing the thermaostats, we gave the car a test run. Steam rolled out of the left side. The temp on both sides were normal 180 to 200. Then we replace the left hand side again. Only to have the same steam problem. Could you give us some advise
on something to try or a solution for this problem

Thanks

Hi there,

did you have the head checked for cracks and warping? Or just change the gasket?

On thing to check is flatness of the head and or block. If you have already had the head checked for cracks. You need a good straight edge and feeler guage and if you are/were a machinist you'll know how to check it. If it is out of whack by.003" on either side it will need resurfacing.
