My car makes a squeeking noise on and off after I start it and while driving. Sounds like its a belt, but unsure. Today the noise got louder and more consistent and then the car killed, but started right back up. What could it be?

If the noise is still there, try this. Start the engine and open the hood. Take a small amount of water and pour it on the belt. See if it chances the sound. If it does, then the belt may be loose or worn out.

NOTE: Protect your eyes because water may fling back at you. Also, wear old clothes.

Let me know if this changes the sound.
