The AC works great but only blows from the defrost vents on the dashboard. What is wrong and how can I get the air to come out of the vents?

Is this hard to do? How much do you think it would cost to have someone take a look at it?

I had the same problem with my 95. Its skinny plastic hose located at the top right area under the hood. Its the middle hose, I hope your lucky like I was because mine broke at the top in a easy place. The hose goes all the way across the back of the engine into the R.H. Fender and then it disappears, so good luck. Its cheap too, I spent 5$ to fix it and it took less than 3 minutes. You can find the hose and the rubber connector @ Pep Boys

My son has a 95 Ford Mustang, when you turn on the air conditioning (or heat for that matter) it blows out the defroster vent by the front windshield. Is there a diverter valve that could be not working? I check the fuses and they are okay. The blower motor is working it just won't blow out the vents on the console.

TO: All

Could be that the defrost door is binding or a disconnected vacuum hose at the air damper door vacuum control motor or the motor itself.

Good Luck

I have a 1998 Mustang GT, the ventilation selector only puts out defrost air regardless of selector position. In other words, if I select the "floor" position and turn the fan control to high I'm getting air flow out of my defrost vents. Doesn't matter what I select. Defrost air only, what could be causing this? Thanks

Sounds like the vacum actuator is broken or leaking might or might not be controlled by the switch. It could be hooked to the air door by a rod that might have come loose. Check there.

Hey there I have a 99 mustang gt and I'm having a problem with my air only blowing out of the defrost and feet vents. I've taken it in to a mechanic and they told me my vac pressure was good and the panel/defrost vacuum control motor needed to be replaced.I was just wondering if anyone knows how to do it as well as a part number for the motor cause I cannot find anything on it. Thanx!

The mode selection is done through a series of air doors that are operated by vacuum. When there is either a partial or total loss of vacuum, the system will default to either defrost or on some vehicles, heat. Acceleration can also have an effect on the doors for the same reason.

Look under the hood for a small black plastic hose coming through the firewall. Follow it to the vacuum source looking for any breaks, cracks or leaks. Also follow any other lines that branch off because they may go to a vacuum reservoir (storage tank) and a leak there will cause the same problem. Using a vacuum gauge to determine if you have full vacuum at any given point is the best way to find it. You can cut into the line anywhere and splice it back together with a piece of vacuum hose. Find the broken line, you found your problem.

My AC is only blowing out of the Defrost vents near the front windshield, not through the main vents no matter what I place the selector knob on, but I can still turn the AC off using that knob, what is the problem?

You are looking for a vacuum leak. The vent doors are actuated by vacuum. If there is a leak, it goes to defrost and floor.

Check under the dash for leaks as well as under the hood.
