HI,

I am planning to replace the brakes of my 2005 Freestyle. This is the first time I have replace brakes, however, I am mechanically inclined and don't think it will be to difficult. Do you recommend replacing the rotors each time the brake pads are replaced or can I have the rotors resurfaced (turned) as long as the rotors are within the thickness specifications.

Depends, some newer vehicles use "composite" material rotors, when you try to turn them they chatter and cause a poor seating surface. If your local guy can turn them and they are within spec, go for it.I would use a higher quality brake pad though (motorcraft) the material is very important to the stopping power of the pads, and cheaper are exactly that regardless of what the box says
