I have a f350 diesel 2001. Been having problems starting. Sometimes it starts, and sometimes it struggles cranks for minutes but does finally start. Fuel pump?

IT could be. The check valve in the pump may be leaking back the fuel into the tank de-energizing the lines.

For the next several starts try to cycle the key.

Before cranking, turn the key to the on postision and let the electric pump begin to energize the lines. Turn the key back to the off position for 5 secs or so. Do this 3-4 times and then crank it. If it is starting consistently like this, Then there is a high probablity of this condition.

Check your batteries, if both batteries are not good it won't start at first. The one batter cranks the motor, I think it's the left, the other runs the computer. If the computer one is bad it will crank till it gets enough charge from the alternater and then start but not untill.
