I have a 2001 F250 disel 4X4 automatic 7.3 liter with 82,000 miles. For the past two months the truck when idleing or when pulling into a store and apply brakes will quit, I can restart imediately without hesatation. This problem started when I traveld from Texas to Spoken Washington. There has never been a check engine light at this point. I recently changed the fuel filter and then took another trip to east Texas early into this trip I had problems with the Truck while at 70mph it seem to stop running and start again without having to restart, only this time the check engine light would come on. I read my manual and it stated that after changing the fuel filter the truck my burp or fart so I would stop the truck check everything and restart without having the check engine light reappear. Since then the truck will continue to die at low ideling or coasting speeds but the engine light does not come on. I have spoken to my shop, they said without the light they could not diagnose the problem. During normal running from state to state at speeds of 70mpg their is no problems. I have also noticed that when at a redlight the truck seems to surge alittle. I would appreciate any input.

Thanks

Hi there,

Simple things first. Check for any signs of a fuel leak between tank and injector pump, there may be a small amount of air in the fuel system, also recheck fuel sediment for any signs of water, and that the air cleaner is serviceable, even if there is no fault light a scan of the system (and history codes) may shine some light on your problem. It also may be a faulty fuel shut off solenoid or valve, just a few things to check.
