1999 Ford F-250 slippage

My trans is slipping and when it does the speed odometer needle drops

Could be the VSS (Vehicle speed sensor)For starters have the PCM (computer) scanned for codes, Autozone will do it for free. If the PCM sees a problem it will store a code that will help in diagnosing the problem, get back with the exact codes. If the PCM doesnt see the vehicle moving (speedo) it wont let the trans shift or will go into a "limp" mode
