1972 Ford F-250 starting

My truck wont start with the ignition but when I hit the starter cable to the battery it starts rite up and purrs.

Double check the battery cables and its connections and at the starter relay side-

It has new solinoid plugs wires battery cable point condensor voltage regulator and when I have the ignition in it when I turn the key to the on position it jus constantly turns over until I unhook the battery

At the starter relay at the small terminal mark S -remove the wire before you turn the key to On-now turn it on and check for power on that wire-you should not have power -if so the ignition switch is defective
