Alternator

I have a 1992 Ford F150 with the 4.9 and 117,000 miles on it. I just replaced the alternator and while test driving the battery light came on and the truck started to die down. I was able to keep it running by feathering the accelerator, but when I would turn on the lights the truck would die down and when I turned them off it would rev back to normal. What could this be?

Make sure belt is not slipping on altenator. Or the cables are all secure and snug and going ot the right place. If that is all tested ok then have the alternator tested at a auto parts store.
