2000 Ford F-150 Exhaust!

Engine Performance problem
2000 Ford F150 V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

This might sound silly but I have been told that with my truck a leak in the exhaust (muffler) to be exact hinders the performance of this motor (5.4) is there any truth to this?

A leak in the muffler wont cause a problem at all. If it is upstream of the oxygen sensors it will most definetely decrease performance, gas mileage and throw a check engine light.

If its in a muffler it wont matter, because you will still have sufficent back pressure.
