my 99 f150 starter stays engaged after being started

As soon as vehicle is started, remove the signal wire from the starter solenoid, does vehicle still attempt to start/ if so then either the solenoid is sticking or the starter has failed.

If it does shut off the starter right away there is a issue with the ignition switch.
