Air Conditioning problem

When I turn on the air conditioner, I can hear the compressor engage and observed it start to spin, but then it stops and every few seconds after it does the same thing.

It shouldn't do that-the compressor is locking up, it's on it's way out.

Your vehicle's airconditioning system is equipped with a low pressure switch which will cause the compressor to cycle on and off if the system is low on refrigerant. (Freon) If there is a total loss of refrigerant the LPS will prevent the compressor from comming on at all. You may want to have your refrigerant pressures checked before proceeding with a costly compressor replacement.
