Engine Mechanical problem
1976 Ford F150 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I first had this problem 2 weeks ago. I went out to my truck to leave and it wouldn't start, I popped the hood and the solenoid was smoking, I replaced it and the battery it started I made it home and went to leave later and it wouldn't start again this time when I shut the key off the starter wouldn't disengage. I ended up replacing the entire igniyion system and now that I have done that it will turn over but will not fire I went through all of the wiring and wired it exactly to specifications but no change, I checked the fuel pump and I have gas going to the fuel pump and out of the fuel pump going into the carb I will hear a sputter every now and again but other than that it wont do anything. What am I missing?

Do below to determine if its fuel or spark problem.

Disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor /distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, ECM, Ignitor cam and crank sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

I have perfect fuel pressure and spark, the entire ignition system is brand new including wiring, it now puffs blue smoke from carb and backfires a couple of times then just cranks and nothing else. What should I try next?

I ended up replacing the entire igniyion system

If you replace the distributor and didn't mark it-the valve and ignition timing will be off
