Runs bad smells bad

1996 explorer sport 6cyl 186,000mi. Auto. Runs as if plug wires are starting to go bad (shake/miss fire but light). Wires and plugs good. Has loss of power stomp on gas and it will restore power. Has very strong exhaust smell. Light has been on due to EGR sys. Before this prob started.

Fix the egr problem and see what happens, this could be the cause of the problem
