How long on average does the power steering pump last? & How many years on average do the ball joints last?

Just curious, I am 43yo and an excellent driver. Recently I borrowed my moms car a few times, with no issues. She is saying that it is my fault these two things failed.

Hi gypsiegirl! Well well well, you've gone and done it now.

How long do they last. It's a fair question. Power steering units can fail from day one until many years later if at all. Ball joints, usually by 50-100K they start to loosen up, but it happens gradually and over time. Ball joints are supposed to wear out at some point in their life.

As far as either of the two go, if your mom has always maintained the vehicle well, and you haven't bumped any curbs or the like while you had it, you're innocent.

Court adjourned!
