Do I have to drop the transmission to change the oil pump on a 2000 Ford Explorer V-6? And also, where would the oil pressure sending unit llocated?

You shouldn't have to remove the trans to get the pan off. As far as the sending unit, it should be near the oil filter.

The oil pressure switch is on the engine next to the power steering pump.
