2000 Ford Explorer Car trouble

My car when it is in drive will kind of start to slip. I was on the highway and all of a sudden my transmission felt weird. I gave it gas, my rpm's when high, and it wasn't getting any gas. My transmission fluid is dark brown.

Start with a trans service, it may give it more life, but if it has been neglected until now, you may be looking at a trans rebuild in the very near future, even if the service helps for now
