1997 Ford Explorer 4 litre SOHC V6

At startup the engine races then immediatly almost stalls. It then varies in RPM from 500 to 2000. Other than that it runs perfect. Check engine light on- codes 171 and 174 indicating MAF sensor or exhaust oxygen sensors- replaced all three and problem persists after some time. Parts guy reset computer after each part replaced. What to I check next? Thank you for your help, Mike

Look for air leaks in the intake path. Leaking vacuum hoses and air ducts are the primary suspects. If no problem is found with air leaks, then the intake manifold gasket and upper intake are suspect. That engine has a plastic upper intake, and they have been known to crack.
