1996 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Greetings, I was wondering if the transmission from a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer wiould fit in a 1996 Ford Explorer? If so, are the electrical connections the same?

Well as long as they both are the 4R70W then yes they will interchange otherwise if they are not the same trans then no. See there is a 4R44 in 96 and a 4R55 in 98 that don't interchange. Hope this helps.
