Transmission problem
1999 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 138k miles

I have a 1999 Explorer sport, 4.0 auto with a damaged rear end. I located a clean 1996 explorer sport with a bad trans. Much cleaner than my 1999. QUESTION: Will the trans from my 99 work in this 96?

And the answer is.A resounding maybe.

Check the connectors on the transmission. If the electrical connectors are the same. The transmission will work. Sometime in that era, the transmission was changed from a mechanical control system to a full electronic control system. Physically, the unit will fit, but would require the wiring harness, PCM, and sensors from the 1999 vehicle to work properly.
