1994 Ford Explorer leak

I have a 1994 ford explorer with a leak coming from where the trans and the engine meet up some one told me you had to drop the tranns and a nother told me to leave the tranny in to change the front pump seal what should I do

If it is trans fluid leaking, and you feel it is from the front seal, you have to remove the transmission. The torque converter slides into the seal and can't be removed without removing the trans first. If this is the case, make sure the torque converter (where is sits in the seal) has no wear marks. If it does, you can replace a hundred seals and they will all start leaking shortly after replacement.
