I have a 93 ford explorer that you can drive for a period of time say 25 miles come to a stop and the you can't accelerate, let it sit for a while and then it will drive fine for another 15 to 20 miles. What is causing this problem?

When was the last time your fuel filter was changed? If it has a lot of sediment in it, the sediment will settle to bottom while not running then when running it gets stired up and clogs filter.

I believe its your thermostat. Mine had the same problem, and it died about every ten minutes of driving. The thermostat lets the cool water into the engine, if you werent aware. And without it, the water in your engine heats up, and since it cant circulate, your engine heats up untill the coolant boils, and your engine overheats and starts to shut down. Theyre cheap, like ten to fifteen dollars at any auto parts store, and relatively easy to replace. Hope this helps.
