1997 Ford Expedition Fuel Gauge

My fuel gauge does not register correctly. It will read empty when the tank is full. If I park uphill, turn the engine off, it will sometimes reset and work accurately until the next time engine is turned off. Is it the fuel sensor or is the some type of float valve in the gas tank?

Sounds like a faulty in tank fuel level sending unit, they sell replacement parts but I find it would be quicker and cheaper to replace the whole assembly.

Since when one is out the other parts of the pump isnt far behind.
