Recently when we slow down to stop and start up again the driver side wheel area has a loud sound like a rock tumbler.
It will stop if you do a hard right turn when it is doing it. It is not doing it all the time, mostly low speed in town stopping and starting driving.

We have tried looking it up and get either rotor, bearing hub, ball joints or transfer case as the suggested culprit.

Is there any way to pin point it?

I am thinking rock tumbler sounds more like bearings.
Not sure what a bad transfer case sounds like.
It is not a scraping or squeaking it is more a loud grinding, rocks tumbling sound.

If the sound changes when you make a turn, chances are the hub bearing is bad. To be exact. I would say the right front. When you turn right, the weight comes off the right side and is transfered to the left. Check that first and let me know what you find.

That is what we are thinking it is too, the bearing hub.
We are just going to try selling it as a project SUV 'as is' and list that as a part to replace. They are like $65 on ebay.

Thank you for your help.

I wish you luck. That is what it sounds like to me, but not being there makes it difficult to be 100% sure. I have a 99 and love it but rust is starting to get the best of it. If I was close, I would buy it from you.

Good luck and let me know if you have other questions.
