Smoke

We have a 2000 ford escort ZX2, it has about 110,000 miles on it and we're unsure of the engine size, we just had the radiator replaced and the transmission worked on within the last month or so. Now it has lost all the coolant, which we replaced, but there's smoke coming from the left section (if you're facing the front of the car) close to where the belts are on that side. There's a strong smell also. Temperatures aren't going up and there's a low key almost hum sound but otherwise it doesn't seem like there's anything going on with it. We're afraid to drive it even to a repair shop because we don't want it blowing something out or catching fire or anything. Please help.

When the car is cool, check what type of fluid is leaking, oil or antifreeze? What color is it, Does it smell of burning oil or antifreeze?

It looks to be antifreeze. The oil level seems to be fine.

"Have a radiator pressure tested for a head gasket problem."

It turned out to be two problems. The radiator line that the coolant goes through did not have a clamp on it and was causing the coolant to leak out.
The second problem is that the air compressor is out. While the belt is spinning it skips and causes the smoking from the belt moving against the stationary compressor. Thank you for your help.
