I have a 1995 ford escort with 115000 miles on it. I believe a 1.6 or 1.7 liter engine. It recently started a metal on metal squeak when in motion at less than 15 miles per hour. It doesn't seem to come from the engine but from the right front tire. When the sound occurs I am not braking!

Question; what are the conditions when the noise happens? Are you going straight, or have you turned a corner. Inspect the brakes anyway some pads have squealers on them that activate when the pads are worn to the minimum safe level. With the car safely jacked up and supported put it in neutral and turn the tire over by hand and see if you can make the noise occur then try to locate it. Good luck!
