Our ford escort lost power and the engine quit after about a 100 mile trip. After sitting a few minutes, the car would start and run for a few hundred yards and die out again. 200,000 miles on this 1996 ford escort. Fuel filter? Catalytic converter? Fuel pump? CDI? No clunks, over heating. Water pump and timing belt changed 5000 miles ago.

Yes the engine cranks after it dies out. The car actually is a 1997 my son says.
