I have a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2, milage is 150,000 and just a few days ago the service engine light came on. I had the spark plugs, spark plug wires and air filter replaced. It is not due for an oil change yet. The problem I am having is when I stop at a red light or stop sign the car acts like it is ging to stall but never does. As long as my foot is on the accelerator or if I am going down the interstate it does great. What could the problem be?

You need to have it scanned for trouble codes. You can take it to an Autozone and they'll do it for free. Post back with the code/codes that come up. It could be something as simple as a vacuum leak.
