1997 Ford Escort random misfire

My escort is running roughat idle and check eng light came on. Did the pocket scan on it and got a random misfire code. What do I need to check?

Using a spark tester, check for spark. A fuel gauge for pressure and or a compression gauge for compression testing.

A vacuum leak can cause this and can be flushed out by spray carb cleaner around suspected areas and listening for an idle change.

When you determine what is missing we can go further.
