1997 Ford Escort Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Automatic 134K miles

Hey guys,
My car seems to be dying. When it idles for too long (like half a minute) the engine stutters, and it will stall. It seems to happen whenever the RPMs go below 1000. I have to shift it to neutral and pump the gas to keep it running.

Any ideas?

Check for vacuum leaks
check idle control valve
check it for tune up
