1997 Ford Escort alternator is not charging

My alternator is not charging. I've been trying to figure this out for a month now. Paid for a new battery and a remanufactored alternator. The light indicator on the dashboard sometimes comes on. Do I need to change the starter? I never changed the starter but once. Runs great but soon as I cut it off I need a boost. What should I do? Could it be the wires bad on the harness wire?

Hi:
Have the alt tested on the car at a nationally recognized parts store. They will most likely do it free. Let me know what you find. Also, make sure all grounds are clean and tight.
