I was just told by a mechanic that the clunking noise I hear going over speed bumps and other road bumps is from a miissing rubber piece in the sway bar link, when checking out the car, he said everything else is tight. When looking under the hood while still trying to find the cause of the noise, we saw the engine lift when being reved up. This alarmed me. He said it is a missing or broken motor mount. I cannot aford to fix it at this time, and am worried about having to wait. My question is will it cause problem by waiting a few weeks to get it fixed. I am trying to baby it and go slow over bumps, but am still nervous about it. Thanks for any response.

Hello my dad has a station wagon and has the same problem with the sway bar and he still drives it like that but he will eventually fix it. Nothing has happened to it. You can drive it like that for a while if u must. The motor mounts r very easy to install on escorts, if u wanna save money get a used one from a junkyard as long as it is in good condition and u will save good money if u install it ur self. Theres a lot of escorts in junkyards all kinds of years. But most of them r the same engine wise so u wont have trouble finding one. Try ecology wrecking yard if ur in calif.

There are 4 motor mounts for the Escort. Most are relatively easy to change but will require some knowledge of procedure. You need to take the weight off the mount inorder to replace it and in two cases, the transmission support bracket must be removed. I would suggest you buy new ones because they can be had for under $30 for two of them and under $15 for the other two.

Noises could also be coming from the inner tie rods or ball joints.
