white smoke when first started then stops smoking aftet a couple minutes

If this happens only first thing in the morning and 40 degrees or below, I would not worry about it. If it is at higher temperature, or after the engine is warmed up, then I would worry and have a compression test (better yet, leak down test) performed on the cylinders.
