Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Ford Escort 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 120k miles

My wifes car will miss like crazy when it starts up in the morning, especially when it is damp or has sat for a couple of days. It has done this on and off for about 2 years. The check engine light has stayed on for those 2 years and when it starts missing real bad the light will flash and then stay on. Lately, it has started missing all the time and worse when started in the mornings. I have had new plug wires and plugs put in about 6 months ago. Any suggestions?

Take it to autozone and have them scan the computer for OBD2 code/s-you have an engine management system problem.

Engine misfiring can be caused by worn or fouled spark plugs, a weak spark (weak coil, bad spark plug wire), loss of compression, vacuum leaks, anything that causes an unusually lean fuel mixture (lean misfire), an EGR valve that is stuck open, dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, or even bad fuel
