Car ran good night before. Next morning Car turns over but won't start. Performed usual elimination: Fuel=o.K. Batt.=O.K, No spark at plugs: Timing belt=o.K. Cams turn, cap & rotor (turns)=o.K plug wires & coil wire=o.K Performed power check to coil=12+ vdc with ign. Switch on, 9.56 vdc with starter engaged. Checked for spark from coil= weak(white) one time only as starter engages then no spark while starter is turning. Replaced Ign. Module still have same results, No spark at plugs, spark weak at coil. Note: This is a 94 Escort GT 1.8L DOHC, with the ESAIS ign. System. I am following proceedures called out in the Chilton manual. Resistance values are good for coil. Not so sure I like this manual! Can't locate self test (ST1) input plug to jump the odb1 connector and perform MIL test? Can't afford to shotgun this problem!

I have a 1993 1.9 SOHC Escort wagon -- test port to hook up OBD-1 tester is located at engine firewall, far corner next to fender, drivers side, at the top -- is a plug that is "plugged" into a black plastic "cover/cap" from the bottom, such that it looks like an electrical relay of some sort, and makes it easy to miss, because all you see is the top of the cover/cap, and not the plug itself, which is hiding underneath.

Simply pull the plug downward, towards ground, while releasing plastic catch on side to reveal test port hookup/plug -- wire with test port plug pulls away towards ground, while cover/cap remains in place.
