1988 Ford E-Series Van engine cuts out, appears to be starv

Engine Mechanical problem
1988 Ford E-Series Van V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 81k miles

drove from canada n/prob. Changed fuel filter;exterior fuel pump w/after market. It has sat alittle before canada, but drove 2 time aweek short distances n/prob. It will start and roun abit then shut down like starved 4 fuel? It has ran out of gas 2 times but ive driven it since w/no problem. It cut out on grapevine where I put filter fuel pump. Also triyed to drive at nite thinkig it could be vapor lock cause its been 100 degrees where I am stranded now. It was cool when I tryed that n it went 2 block before cutting out. I am stranded with 3 old dogs and havevery little money n on disabled please please help I am stuck ontill I figure out how to repair, thnx Rob

Hi
when van is not running pull plug wire hold 1/4 in. From block crank spark. If yes thenspray carb cleaner into throttle crank does it fire.
