Fuel filter replacement - engine stalled?

I just bought my '98 Contour and drove it a total of 200 miles. While we were driving, it shuddered, no big deal, needs fuel filter? But then it just stopped, turned itself off and everything. What are the possible problems? There is only a leak from the backup water container. Nothing else.

I would suggest with starting with checking the fuel pressure before we get to far down the line. Here is a guide that will help with doing this:

If the pressure is low then we can check the filter and make sure it is not plugged. Otherwise you are going to most likely have a pump issue.
